Als alternatief kan ik je Observation Point aanbevelen. Ik vond het een fantastische wandeling en op het einde na alle inspanning word je beloond met een fantastisch uitzicht. Ik zou deze hike zo opnieuw doen.

Was al genoemd Kurt. Weet je nog hoe lang je er over gedaan hebt?
Is die 6 uur van de NPS-site een redelijke inschatting voor mensen met een (nog?) niet al te geweldige conditie?

Ook wij gaan deze zomer Observation Point doen. Als ik de berichten op TripAdvisor bekijk denk ik dat deze 6u redelijk ruim gerekend is, enkele citaten:

This was a challenging hike to the top. With a steady pace you will get there in about 3.5 to 4 hours. Bring plenty of water. This hike not for everyone.


As two people who had not really hiked anything further than 2 miles, so it was a big challenge to take on the 8 mile round trip to the top of observation point. The first 5 mins we looked at each other and started laughing as we were already out of breath! But we continued on and loved the rewards of this hike. Within the first 30 mins you get stunning views of the valley below. Continue on and you arrive in Echo Cannon, one of the most stunning places that I have seen. Just another hour to the top, steep but rewarding climbs, shared with chipmunks, lizards and many other bird species. Finally you reach the top and get to gaze out to the best views of Zion Cannon. All in all we did the round trip in four and a half hours, an hour and a half less than the advertised time. Highly recommended!

I am out of shape and take lots of pictures so this took me 6 hours to hike (3 1/2 hours up, 1 hour break at top, 1 1/2 hours down). Since I was going solo I had some interesting conversation with other hikers. I guess all the camera equipment sparked some interest. Lots of beautiful scenery. The view from...


Het ziet er dus naar uit dat die 6u de tijd is als je het heel langzaam doet en vaak stopt voor foto's..

Ook zie ik verschillende 'alternatieven' om tot aan Observation Point te komen. Welke is de standaard of aangeraden wandeling dan? Beginnen aan E Mesa Trail aan Echo Canyon?

Die 6u zijn inderdaad wel heel ruim gerekend.

Ja zes uur is heel ruim. Ik heb heen dacht ik iets meer dan 2 uur erover gedaan en terug 1,5 uur. Ma vond het echt super.

Is de parkeerplaats bij het startpunt van Observation Point (volgens mij Weeping Rock) in de zomer met de auto te bereiken of moeten we dan met de shuttelbus (stop 6)?

In de zomer moet je met de shuttle behalve als je een reservering hebt in de lodge.

Ook dan moet je met de shuttlebus naar Weeping Rock. Je mag dan met je eigen auto alleen maar tot aan de Zion Lodge rijden om daar te parkeren, maar niet verder. Althans, zo was het in 2010 toen wij in de Lodge logeerden.
