Bron: http://www.ksee24.comScott Peterson is now a convicted murderer, and many people in the Central Valley seem convinced that justice was served. KSEE 24 News spoke with people on the streets of Modesto and Fresno, all of whom said the jury made the right decision.
Early Friday afternoon, a jury in Redwood City found Peterson guilty of both first degree and second degree murder for the deaths of his wife, Laci, and their unborn son. People gathering outside the courtroom cheered as the verdict was announced, and the Peterson home became a growing memorial as people left flowers, cards, and candles in memory of Laci and Connor.
In Fresno the father of Amber Frey, Peterson's mystery girlfriend and the prosecution's star witness, said he spoke briefly by phone with Amber. He said he could hear tears in her voice and tell that it saddened her. Amber's boyfriend and father of her second child, a Fresno chiropractor, said he believed justice was served.
Dismissed juror #7, Fran Gorman, said she was surprised that the jury reached a verdict so quickly. She was removed for reportedly conducting her own research.
Peterson was also found guilty of special circumstances, which makes him eligible for the death penalty. After a week-long break, the jury will begin the penalty phase November 22nd, and the judge says they should consider punishments by November 30th.
Peterson showed no emotion as the verdict was read. The verdict comes as two jurors were released this week, inlcuding the jury foreman.
Bron: http://www.ksee24.comScott Peterson was sentenced to death by a six-woman, six-man jury Monday afternoon, after a six-month trial in which he was convicted of killing his wife, Laci, and their unborn child.
A crowd of hundreds gathered outside the courthouse in Redwood City as the verdict was announced. Some cheered the decision. Peterson has become the target of public disdain since soon after his wife disappeared on Christmas Eve of 2002. Weeks later, the public would learn Peterson had been having an affair with Fresno massage therapist, Amber Frey, and was trying to sell the home he shared with Laci.
When Peterson was arrested in San Diego in April of 2003, his hair had been dyed blonde and he was reportedly carrying thousands in cash along with his brother's identification.
Peterson has long maintained his innocence.
