We wanted to take a moment to tell you about a brand new tour opportunity that has been approved since you made your reservations. It is called the Coconino Canyon Train.

For the first time, visitors to the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park will be able to step back in time and board a train tour originating inside the park. This 90 minute train tour departs each day at 5:30 p.m. from the historic Grand Canyon Depot (celebrating its 100th anniversary this year). The Coconino Canyon Train will travel approximately 12 miles through a portion of the largest Ponderosa Pine forest in the world. After a 20 minute layover at the Imbleau Station, a former railway section house, the train will begin the return journey to Grand Canyon National Park. Pre-recorded narration will provide travelers with information about the stunning Southwestern geography, as well as landmarks commemorating historic events along the way.

Kreeg ik vandaag ook in de bus. Lijkt me wel duur voor een treinritje...

Ja inderdaad, ik vind het ook best duur geprijsd en kan me eigenlijk niet echt een voorstelling maken van wat ik precies kan verwachten..

Gisteren kreeg ik van Xanterra een nieuwsbrief over een nieuwe 'attractie', de Coconino Canyon Train

Het leek ons wel leuk en we hebben geboekt voor 23 juli.

Omdat er ondertussen al een ander draadje was dat ook over deze trail gaat, heb ik de berichten samengevoegd.

Ook toevallig, krijg ik net de bevestiging van Xanterra.

Wij gingen er van uit dat je dan tijdens zonsondergang op een leuke plek aan de GC stond op het treinstation. Maar wat staat er onder de bevestiging :

“The grand canyon is *NOT* visible at anytime during this tour. This tour is for the train enthusiast"

Dat heb ik nergens gelezen voordat ik ging reserveren

Nee, dat gaat ook op voor het treintje vanaf Williams. Maar het depot is wel heel erg dicht bij de rim, vlak achter El Tovar en Hopi House. Ik denk dat Coconino meer iets voor treinenthousiasten is. Op YouTube kan je een filmpje zien.

Zoals al vermeld in een andere thread, je ziet niets van de GC vanuit de trein en hij vertrekt van het Depot dat heel dicht bij de rim ligt achter El Tovar, maar helaas.....geen rimview.
