heey guys,

voor school moet ik een profielwerkstuk maken over het verschil tussen het Amerikaanse accent en de van de Britten.
ik heb hier voor een enquete gemaakt. zouden jullie die a.u.b in willen vullen?

Wees welkom hier. Het probleem is dat er niet zoiets is als een Amerikaans accent, dat verschilt sterk per regio en Amerikanen horen die verschillen en als het erg sterk is buitenlanders ook. Voor de Britten geldt hetzelfde dat je ook daar accenten hoort.
Maar goed hier de antwoorden:
1) Hou ik voor mezelf
2) ??? (ik krijg geen associaties)
3) ??? (ik krijg geen associaties)
4) Als het plat Engels is dan het VS accent, anders het Eng. accent, denk ik, maar eigenlijk geen voorkeur.
5) Ook hier weer beiden, en hangt af van hoe plat men spreekt.

7) Ik spreek standaard met een VS accent, alhoewel je duidelijk hoort dat ik een Nederlander ben. Maar ik gebruik vaak wel the Queen's English qua woorden en spelling.

Welk Brits accent? Dat van even ten zuidoosten van Londen, ook wel de 'Queen's English' genoemd? Yokshire? Rond Newcastle (waar ze een Deense r gebruiken)? Manchester? Liverpool (Liverpudlian)? Schots accent? Welsh accent? Cornwall? Er zijn er zoveel. En tegenwoordig zijn veel meer accenten te horen op de BBC dan vroeger.

Net als in de VS: plat Boston? Minnesotan, Louisiana/Cajun? Eigenlijk net als in de Benelux, plat Gronings is iets heel anders dan plat Limburgs. Of plat Amsterdams, Hagenees en wat ze in Rotjeknor met de taal uithalen (ben zelf Amsterdammer). Om over 'breed Antwerps' maar te zwijgen.

Met andere woorden: niet zo eenvoudig een vergelijking te maken als het lijkt.

met accent bedoel ik gewoon het verschil tussen het meest voorkomend Brits en Amerikaans.
ik weet dat er meer verschillende accenten zijn van beide, maar de leraar die mij helpt met het profielwerkstuk zei dat ik het verschil tussen het standaard Brits en Amerikaans moest doen omdat het onderwerp anders te breed wordt.

7. When I speak English, spreek ik Amerikaans met een Nederlands/Brits accent (noem het zelf bescheiden een 'suave, sophisticated European accent'), waarschijnlijk omdat ik Engels heb gestudeerd aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam toen daar het Brits nog hoog in het vaandel stond.
8. Sophisticated (maar weet zelf dat de Britten een nogal plat gevoel voor humor hebben, denk meer Bennie Hill dan aan hoogdravende grapjes en woordspelingen)
9. Gewoon (woon hier tenslotte al lang)

Allemaal nogal oppervlakkig, zoals vergelijkingen vaak zijn en zeer onderhevig aan wat je zelf leuk vindt/acceptabel vindt/aan blootgesteld bent.

En wat je zelf vindt. Ik merk dat Nederlanders vaak de voorkeur geven aan Amerikaans, omdat het zo lekker 'slordig' is. Wat overigens niet waar is, luister maar eens naar een nieuwslezer van de Amerikaanse TV, vooral de grote nationale netwerken: CBS, NBC, ABC.

En natuurlijk zijn vooral vraag 8 en 9 geheel op vooroordelen en algemeenheden gebaseerd en erg gechargeerd. En zijn ook stijve Amerikanen en spontane Britten.

4. Which accent do you prefer and why? It depends. If I speak to non-native speakers I try to use American English because it tends to be better understood and has less peculiarities. If I want to intimidate someone or appear more professional, I switch to a more British vocab / accent. It also depends on what the person who I'm talking to speaks.

Still, my British accent is more credible than my American one - there are a few sounds that always come out as British, no matter what I do

6. witch accent sounds more attractive? I prefer non-standard accents (Scottish or Irish people speaking standard English, f.i.), but have a slight preference for British, I think.

E. quite extensively, but then married an American and I have mostly Americanized my language since. I just get so much more Am. E. exposure these days. I can still switch at will and sound pretty credible.Brits tend to peg me as Irish or Scots, depending on where they themselves are from and most Americans peg me as " Americanized British"

Dat hangt van de lokaliteit van het accent af. Ik vind standaard Brits heel mooi, maar wat ze spreken rondom Liverpool dus helemaal niet. Ik vind het Piedmont Southern (denk Gone with the Wind) erg mooi, maar wat ze spreken in Boston weer niet. Over het algemeen prefereer ik Amerikaans omdat ik dat dagelijks hoor, en eraan gewend ben.

Hangt af van welke regio je het over hebt. Maar als we het hebben over het standaard accent (mid-Atlantic Amerikaans en de Queen's English), dan denk ik Amerikaans (vind ik meer corporate klinken, en Brits klinkt meer deftig)

Bedoel je sexy? Of mooi? Ik ga voor mooi, en dan kies ik Brits

Ik spreek met een Amerikaans accent. Volgens kennissen en vrienden is het een combinatie tussen midwest-plains en wat zuidelijke klanken

Wellicht een beetje een zijspoor, maar onlangs hoorde ik iemand zeggen dat het hedendaagse Amerikaanse accent veel meer op het oude (King George) Engels lijkt dan het huidige Britse accent. Ik weet niet of de stelling inderdaad bewezen is (of zelfs bewezen kan worden), maar ik vond het toch wel een fascinerende gedachte.

Dat zei 1 van mijn professoren Engels (Universiteit van Amsterdam, lang geleden) ook, dat het huidige Amerikaanse accent normaal Engels was in de 17e en 18e eeuw. De toneelstukken van Shakespeare zouden dus vlak nadat ze geschreven waren, in "Amerikaans" Engels zijn opgevoerd.

Net zoals het Afrikaans het Nederlands is uit de 17e eeuw?
