As I Was Saying...

MATTHEWS: Where do we get the money?

LOTT: Well, you’ve got to.

(CROSSTALK)

MATTHEWS: I mean we have a $480 billion deficit so there’s no money available. There are a lot of programs that aren’t being met; costs that we can’t meet right now here in this country. So we have to have some new money to pay for this Iraqi venture. Where is it coming from? Are we going to borrow more money next year than $480 billion, which is a record breaker? Are we going to raise taxes? Are we going to cut other programs here at home? Where will the money come from for this Bush mission in Iraq?

LOTT: (....)Now, where does it come from? First of all, I hope our own economy is going to be growing and increasing. The revenue that comes into the federal government. But, I think we’re also going to have to continue to show restraint. We may have to cut some programs. We may have to do a lot of things, Chris, that maybe we would prefer to do some other way.

Ik bedoel maar.
